MUMBAI: Sun Direct, which has already mopped up 1.7 million subscribers, today launched its direct-to-home (DTH) service in Delhi and the national capital region.
The Sun Group company is targeting three million subscribers by the end of this fiscal. "Almost 99 per cent of our subscriber base is from the South. In September, we launched our service in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana," says Sun Direct chief operating officer Tony D'Silva.
Sun Direct will be launching in other parts of the country by the end of next month but Mumbai will happen later, D'Silva adds.
Sun's DTH is available at an introductory price of Rs 999 for 10 months of subscription and an installation charge of Rs 1000. The set-top box (STB) and dish is offered free.
Sun Direct offers 130 channels and has the capacity to pack in 155 channels from the seven Ku-band transponders it has on Insat 4B.
"We are able to garner so many subscribers in such a short span of time because of the price proposition we offer," says D'Silva.
Sun Direct is a 80:20 joint venture between the Maran family and Malaysia-based Astro Group.
