DTH player Sun Direct today said it expects its subscriber base to touch six million-mark by the end of this fiscal with major additions coming this festive season.

The 80:20 joint venture, between the Maran family (grand- nephews of TN CM Karunanidhi) and Malaysia's Astro Group, currently has about 4.3 million users.

"We are hopeful of reaching closer to six million by March 2010... A large part of it would depend on how we do in the festive season and we have received a good response so far," Sun Direct Chief Operating Officer Tony D’Silva told reporters on the sidelines of India Digital Networks Summit 2009.

The southern major is also looking at strengthening its base in northern India.

"About 80 per cent of our subscribers are from the southern region but we are looking at northern markets as well...For the current fiscal, we have earmarked a marketing spend of Rs 150 crore," D'Silva said.

Sun Direct currently has an average revenue per user (ARPU) of Rs 100 and has added high definition (HD) TV services this April.

"We have not started to aggressively market our HD services yet and that we would begin by December this year or March next year," D’Silva said.
